The ruling permitted the state of Virginia to sterilize an "imbecile" — a scientific term of the day. “Imbeciles” examines one of the darkest chapters of progressive reform, and “Illiberal Reformers” looks at the perils of intellectual arrogance in dealing with explosive social issues. This book does waffle on a little bit much at times but then again so do the actual self help books so I suppose that may have been part of the joke.
